Mr. Bowery’s weekly letter

Dear Parents

I think many parents are now beginning to experience what teachers have to cope with every day of their work. I am referring to behavior and attention while the teacher is trying to explain the work that has to be done. In a classroom, a teacher has to manage 25 children at the same time. At home, a parent has to manage only one or two, and some are finding it difficult.

The main points I want all parents to adhere to when using Zoom are:

1. A Zoom session is for pupils, not parents. It is a lesson. Parents should not interfere or interact with the teacher. They should supervise where appropriate but let the pupils do the work.

2. The session should be conducted in a quiet place with few distractions.

3. Parents are responsible for attention and behavior. A teacher can teach using Zoom but they cannot instill attention. If parents struggle, don’t blame the teacher, don’t blame Zoom and don’t blame the system.
Look closer at home for the problem, and use it as a learning opportunity.

Thanking you for your support.
