Hi Everyone.
Have a peaceful Friday and rest from weekday routines.
I hope everyone is safe and staying indoors. Until we complete this isolation properly there will always be a danger of prolonging the situation.
We will continue to support families as much as we can while your children are at home. So far we have
• set out a daily schedule for them to follow
• set a timetable for subjects to set daily work
• set a schedule to return work and have marks sent back.
• set up Facebook groups in the Upper School
• set up Pebblego for Lower School pupils to access.
• commenced Cambridge Mock exams which are going well.
This is not a time for new work (as the Ministry recognises) and we need to encourage life skills and other interests to grow. To this end we are:
• encouraging things like model making to develop planning and dexterity.
• having a House Photography Competition to develop artistic perception.
• introducing a whole school Art Competition for creativity.
• starting a Storytime for younger children to hear stories read by their teachers for listening skills and imagination.
• ready for when Cambridge announces what they require to award exam grades this year. We will be giving our candidates every support.
Frankly nothing, during this period, has come as a surprise to most people. There have been Intifada’s here before and I have been through several closures. The key to success is to do things properly and not to react and try things that will not work. Behind the scenes will have been constantly evaluating many ‘services’ that organisations are offering to schools now that they are closed.
Throughout the next few weeks, we will be having some sessions where teachers can go through the work that has been set and what work will be set. The pilot that we have trialed went very well with one of our Y9 class.
With parents and teachers working together, and neither one expecting too much from the other, there will be no long-lasting impact on the progress of our children.
Please stay indoors, except in an emergency, and let’s get over this period as quickly as possible.
Mr. George
