Dear Parents of Y10, some of Y11 and Y12 16 Apr 2020
Re Mock Exams
Mock exams are taken before the CIE Exams for two main reasons;
1) To give pupils the experience of taking official exams under official conditions. CIE exams are conducted under strict regulations and it is good for pupils to practice this.
2) To give pupils a final indication of their strong and weaker parts of the subject and give time to make adjustments.
Under the current circumstances we cannot do point 1, but we will complete an exam rehearsal when the school reopens, and before the official exams begin so that everyone knows the procedures.
As for point 2, the exam papers will be sent home via Noorspace in PDF format for pupils to complete at home. They will be given details of the length of time needed and to put their answers on a separate sheet of paper and send this back rather than trying to send many pages. Any pages which require graphs or tables can be photographed and returned. After the subject teachers have marked the answers a full Mark Scheme will be sent to the pupils so they can compare their answers with the expected ones.
We are expecting the schools to open early April and with the planned Easter vacation being canceled there is still plenty of weeks before the CIE exams begin for teachers to meet groups of pupils with questions.
Practical exams (ICT) require a supervisor in case of technical problems and will not take place as timetabled. They will be conducted during the first two weeks of April.
If the school closures continue beyond the beginning of April we have contingency plans ready but these do not need to be discussed until that situation arises.
Keep safe and healthy
